Three cheers for the MSiC!! We are in our 50th year of continuous operation serving the students and teachers in Central Virginia!

The MathScience Innovation Center (formerly the Mathematics & Science Center) is the oldest Title III project funded under the ESEA (Elementary & Secondary Education Act) still in full operation in the state and the only one in the country continually funded locally since 1969 by the collaborating school divisions.

The Mathematics and Science Center was established in 1966 by the Superintendents of six local school divisions (Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico, Goochland, Powhatan and Richmond), who had a common need and a common vision. They wanted to establish a regional math and science Center to serve their divisions. Using funds provided under Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, they started the Center.

When the grant expired in 1969, the superintendents pooled their resources to continue operation of the Center. To date, these six divisions have remained in the consortium of now 12 school divisions which all provide invaluable “backbone” support for the Center.

We are entering our 50th year with a successful Summer Regional Governor’s School and Camp Innovation which highlighted new programs and experiences for students. Our August teacher professional development programs ranging from geology to engineering (and more) will begin soon. Our calendar is prepared, the Foundation Board is making plans for an Open House, magnificent gala and educational events around town which will showcase and celebrate our deep level of work in the region.

If you are an alumnus of the Center and would like to participate in our work this year, please contact the Center.

Thank you for your continued support and here’s to a great 50th YEAR!
