Rules and Guidelines for Schedulers

In order to provide a consistent, high-quality experience for all of our schools, please use the following rules and guidelines when confirming your lesson dates. If you have any questions, please contact Pam O'Brien or Donna Newman at 343-6525.

Rules and Guidelines for Scheduling Lessons at the Center

  1. MathScience Innovation Center lessons and facilities are designed to accommodate one regular class of up to 32 students. Do not combine classes. Please be sure the grade level of your students matches the grade level specified in the lesson description.

  2. If you need additional lesson dates or if you are not using all the dates assigned to your school, please notify the scheduling office at the beginning of the school year.

  3. Due to scheduling restrictions, most schools schedule one arrival at the center per date. These lessons usually start at 10:00 or 10:30. Lesson length is 120 minutes.

  4. Some schools have the flexibility to schedule the same lesson for two different groups of students at the same grade level on the same day with different arrival times. If you choose to schedule two arrivals, please leave at least 15 minutes between classes for the MSiC staff to reset the classroom. Lesson length is 120 minutes.

  5. In many instances, two grade levels from your school are scheduled to come for different lessons on the same date. This is planned so that the classes may share a bus, if space allows. Please make sure you are confirming them to arrive at the same time.

  6. The MSiC has a cafeteria space if your classes would like to eat lunch at the center, either before or after the lesson. NOTE: The center can provide space only; we do not have food service on campus.

  7. Bus transportation, to and from the Center, should be requested through regular school channels. Be sure the bus trip is verified and agrees with your lesson date and time confirmation.

  8. Schedule confirmations and reminders will be sent to the MSiC school representative by automated emails at both 5 weeks and 2 weeks prior to the lesson date.

  9. To ensure service, you must schedule lessons by October 15. After that date, your lesson dates may be given away to other schools.

Rules and Guidelines for Scheduling Lessons in the Classroom

  1. Each MathScience Innovation Center lesson is designed for a classroom environment. Lessons are designed to accommodate one regular class of up to 32 students. Do not combine classes. Please be sure the grade level of your students or content area of your class matches what is specified in the lesson description.

  2. Receiving teachers are to remain in the classroom to assist the MSiC and to identify possible follow-up activities. The classroom teacher is responsible for the safety and supervision of their students.

  3. If you need additional lesson dates or if you are not using all the dates assigned to your school, please notify the scheduling office.

  4. At the elementary level, you may schedule 4 classes of 60 minutes duration but no more than two lesson titles or grade levels per day. Please allow the MSiC teacher 15 minutes to change class and at least 30 minutes for lunch.

  5. At the middle school/senior high level, teachers are scheduled for a maximum of 4 single or 3 block periods per day but no more than two lesson titles. For “Cryogenics,” only 3 lessons are scheduled. Some lessons require that the MSiC teacher remain in the same classroom for the entire day; therefore, refer to the lesson list for lesson descriptions, including classroom requirements. Allow the MSiC teacher time to change class and at least 30 minutes for lunch.

  6. At both the elementary and secondary level, we ask that you schedule a minimum of two lessons in the classroom per day. If there are extenuating circumstances that prevent this, please contact the scheduling department directly. If you do not schedule a minimum number of lessons and our department is not contacted, we reserve the right to cancel the day of service.

  7. Please anticipate arrangements for classroom presentation, e.g., materials needed, schedule within school, etc. Notify school personnel that the MSiC teacher will be visiting and may need assistance.

  8. Schedule confirmations and reminders will be sent to the MSiC school representative by automated emails 2 weeks prior to the lesson date.

  9. To ensure service, you must schedule lessons by October 15. After that date, your lesson dates may be given away to other schools.
